Every Rose Has It's Thorns

It's technically Spring here (though the weather seems bound and determined to prove that it's still winter) so I figured some floral nails were in order!

These roses are heavily inspired by @followthatway's gorgeous, gorgeous florals. All of her designs are so pretty and delicate, you should definitely check out her work if you haven't already!

Moving on, if the base colour looks suspiciously familiar then you're definitely onto something! The base is the matte polish Doll Face from Ciaté that I swatched a few days ago! Also included from those watches is Dangerous Affair in the roses. With the base colour already being matte I didn't want to mess with it's finish. I decided the best route would be to not bother with a topcoat so this design is kind of a mash up of a matte base with a shiny design!

I was kind of conflicted about the studs in the design (which are from BPS by the way, ID 16677). As you probably know, I love mixing girly and edgy so I knew I definitely wanted to add studs, but I wasn't sure which fingers to put them on. I wasn't super keen on putting a stud over the roses on the middle and pinky fingers (definitely didn't think that through while I was painting) but I thought that the design looked better overall with studs on all the fingers.

Here's a little comparison for you so that you can see the studs v. the roses they're covering up:

I think I'm getting better at roses but they're still super stressful to paint because you're halfway through a flower and you're just like "this is not a rose, it is a giant blob of different shades of red and pink." Or at least that's what I think. Maybe other people don't lol.

Hope you're all having a good weekend and if you're in uni/college then I wish you luck on your upcoming exams!! I'll be cramming right along with you, haha!
