NAFW2015 Day1: Favourite Fashion Designer

Hey guys!
This week is going to be packed with new nail art because I'm super excited to announce that I'll be participating the first ever Nail Art Fashion Week hosted by @sonailicious, @seizethenail, @manicurator, and @faustgil!

The first challenge is to do a design inspired by your favourite designer. I don't usually follow fashion that closely so I don't really have a favourite designer, but since I've found nail art inspiration from Marc Jacobs in the past (good lord look at how long my nails were) I went back in search of more and was not disappointed!

I came across this dress while browsing through Marc Jacobs Fall 2015 RTW Runway and pretty much fell in love. There were two other similar dresses in the collection but this was the only one with the cutout which I thought would be super cute turned into a nail design.

Not going to lie, I absolutely love designs using negative space so doing this design was really a no brainer for me. And yes, those are all individually placed caviar beads you see. When I decided to do this design I was kind of freaking out because I don't have a wax stick and usually use tweezers to place studs and caviar beads. Obviously that wasn't going to fly for the amount of beads I had to deal with here so I improvised and made my own wax stick!
In case you're ever in a similar fix, what I did was light a candle prior to starting my nails and let it burn until I was almost ready to start placing the beads. When I was ready I blew the candle out and let the wax solidify for a minute or two and then dipped a rarely-used dotting tool into the gummy wax for a second before pulling it out. And voila! A make-shift wax stick that made picking up those pesky beads 500 times easier.

It's candle wax, I swear!

This is such a fun event and I can't wait to show you guys the rest of my designs this week! Hopefully you don't get tired of my posting every day, haha!

  1. I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS SO SO MUCH <3 It's edgy and cool and mindblowing and also so much work lol! I hadn't seen your thumb yet but that caviar bead loop is so cool! Also, great tip with the candle wax, I don't have a wax pencil either and I sometimes really need one so I'll try your trick! :)

    1. Thanks Robin!! <3 <3
Glad I could help out with the wax stick! I know how annoying it is to try to do anything with beads without one!
